Ingredients

  • 400 g chocolate chips 14.1 oz choose milk or dark chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 400 g sweetened condensed milk 14.1 oz
  • 15 g unsalted butter 0.5 oz
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt optional, for enhanced flavor contrast
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional, for added sweetness and smoothness

Method

Step 1: Prepare Your Slow Cooker
  1. Start by greasing your slow cooker with a bit of non-stick spray or butter. This step makes it easier to lift out the fudge later.
Step 2: Combine Ingredients
  1. Place the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, butter, and vanilla extract into the slow cooker. If you're including honey, add that too!
Step 3: Cook on Low
  1. Cover your slow cooker and set it to low. Allow the mixture to cook for about 1.5 to 2 hours. The low, gentle heat will melt everything perfectly.
Step 4: Stir It Up
  1. Every 30 minutes, take a moment to check on the fudge. Use a spatula to stir it gently. This step helps combine everything evenly and prevents any ingredients from sticking to the sides.
Step 5: Add Sea Salt
  1. If you're using sea salt, sprinkle it in during the final stir before turning off the slow cooker. This will make the fudge even more delectable and enhance its flavor.
Step 6: Pour and Chill
  1. Once everything has melted and you have a nice, smooth mixture, pour it into a lined baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly. Let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then move it to the refrigerator to set completely.
Step 7: Cut and Enjoy
  1. After a couple of hours in the fridge (or overnight for best results), take your fudge out and cut it into squares. You’re now all set to enjoy decadent, homemade fudge.

Notes

  • Mix It Up: Consider adding ingredients like nuts or dried fruits for texture. They can provide a delightful crunch or burst of flavor.
  • Flavor Variations: Try different extracts like almond or peppermint for unique flavors. Each one transforms the fudge into something new and exciting.
  • Chocolate Options: Don’t feel restricted to chocolate chips. High-quality chocolate bars, chopped finely, can add a richer flavor.
  • Storage: Keep your fudge in an airtight container. It stays fresh for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
  • Presentation: Cut fudge into squares of varying sizes and stack them in a pyramid. It makes a lovely presentation for parties or gifts.
